A strong, durable roof is an essential component of your home’s overall health and functionality. “If you want lasting and reliable results, choosing a qualified roofing contractor is the first step,” says Steve Gray, a broker with Royal LePage Kelowna. “The right contractor will be knowledgeable and ready for any of your questions.” Gray recommends asking the following three questions before choosing a contractor:
1. Do you carry liability and worker’s safety insurance? In case of an accident, it is important to make sure that you, as a home owner, are not held financially accountable. Before hiring, ensure any damage to your house or worker injuries incurred during installation of the new roof are covered under the contractor’s insurance.
2. What kind of warranty do you offer and what does it cover? Accredited roofing companies offer two kinds of warranties. One will cover the installation of your roof and the other will cover materials from the company’s supplier.
3. How long have you been in the roofing business and can you provide referrals? Making it in today’s competitive business marketplace is a challenge no matter what industry you’re in. Successful businesses persevere because they are qualified and produce desirable results, thereby creating satisfied customers. Seek out a roofing company with an established history of professionalism and reliability in your community. Ask your friends and family members for referrals and their experiences with specific companies.
If you’re still unsure about a contractor, consider contacting the Better Business Bureau (BBB). Research potential candidates thoroughly and ask the right questions. More information can be found online at www.royallepage.ca.
